Silicon Park, Africa - a proposal for an institute of tertiary study set within a fully sustainable and integrated technological park

Paradigm Architects are involved as part of a professional team in establishing the design framework for the concept of a Silicon Park, Africa. The campus is comprised of the core element of the African Institute of Technology, which is made up of a number of engineering and science faculties set within a larger commercial Park. The representation of the underlying double helix reflects the Park’s fundamental technological function and is manifested in the snaking water course and movement avenues. In addition, the molecular structure of the atom inspires the next level of interconnectivity, creating visual connections across the Park between nodal forms of public space, commercial activity, research facilities and student accommodation. In keeping with the spirit of the project a strong emphasis is placed on the ‘green’ aspects of solar energy generation, water purification and environmental sustainability.
